ABOUT THE ARTWORK
1. What is the Crown of Consciousness?
Crown of Consciousness is a contemporary glass sculpture by artist Kaustubh Kamat, created through Kosmosk’s layered-glass process. It depicts Ganesha as a symbol of spiritual ascendancy—the movement from the visible and material toward a higher state of consciousness.
2. What does the Crown of Consciousness represent?
The Crown represents the moment when consciousness rises beyond the limitations of ordinary perception. Ganesha becomes a symbol not simply of wisdom, but of awakening, transformation and transcendence.
3. Why is it called the “Crown” of Consciousness?
The crown represents the highest point of an inner journey—the point at which awareness transcends the self. The form of Ganesha is used as a visual metaphor for this ascent.
4. Is this a religious idol or a work of art?
It is conceived primarily as a contemporary work of art. While the sculpture draws deeply from the symbolism of Ganesha, it is not intended as a conventional devotional idol. It explores spirituality through contemporary sculpture, material and perception.
THE MAKING
5. How is the sculpture made?
The sculpture is constructed from numerous individual layers of glass. Each layer is individually painted, precisely positioned and bonded with resin. The resulting block is then ground and progressively polished to reveal the image existing within its depth.
6. Is the image painted on the surface?
No. This is one of the defining characteristics of Kosmosk.
The image exists within the volume of the sculpture, rather than simply on its surface. As you move around the work, different layers and details reveal themselves.
7. How long does one sculpture take to make?
Each Crown passes through a lengthy process of painting, layering, bonding, grinding, polishing and finishing. The exact time can vary depending on the individual work and production stage.
8. Is every sculpture handmade?
Yes. Each sculpture undergoes extensive hands-on craftsmanship, particularly in the painting, assembly, finishing and polishing stages.
9. Are all 111 sculptures identical?
They belong to the same edition and follow the same artistic design, but each is individually produced, finished and inspected. Subtle variations inherent to a handmade artwork make every piece unique.
THE EDITION
10. How many Crown of Consciousness sculptures will exist?
The edition consists of 111 individually numbered sculptures.
11. Why 111?
111 — three ones representing the self, the universe, and the consciousness that connects them. Three expressions of one existence.
The number forms part of the contemporary mythology created around the Crown.
12. Will there ever be another edition after 111?
No. Once the edition of 111 is complete, this edition will be permanently closed.
13. Can I choose my edition number?
Edition numbers are subject to availability. Certain numbers may be reserved or released separately.
14. Is there a First Edition or Genesis Edition?
You could introduce the first small group as the Genesis Edition—the first Crowns to enter the world. This would make early acquisition particularly meaningful.
ACQUISITION
15. How much does the Crown of Consciousness cost?
The current acquisition price is ₹1,11,000 per sculpture, subject to availability.
16. How do I acquire one?
The Crown is available through a private acquisition process. Click Request Private Acquisition and submit your details. The Kosmosk team will personally contact you regarding availability and the next steps.
17. Can I buy it directly from the website?
Rather than a conventional checkout experience, Kosmosk offers the Crown through private acquisition. This allows collectors to understand the work, its making and the available edition before acquiring it.
18. Can I see the sculpture before acquiring it?
Yes. Private viewings can be arranged where possible. A virtual viewing can also be offered to collectors outside the city.
19. Can I speak directly with the artist?
Yes. Depending on the acquisition, a private conversation with the artist can be arranged to discuss the work and its story.
COLLECTOR EXPERIENCE
20. What comes with the sculpture?
Each Crown is accompanied by its edition documentation and Certificate of Authenticity. You can also make the experience more substantial with a signed artist’s letter, archival documentation and a record of the sculpture’s making.
21. Does the sculpture come with its edition number?
Yes. Every Crown is individually numbered as part of the 111-piece edition.
22. Will I receive a Certificate of Authenticity?
Yes. The certificate documents the artwork, edition number, artist, materials and other relevant provenance details.
23. Will my sculpture have a digital provenance record?
This is something I’d strongly recommend introducing. Each Crown could have a private digital archive containing its edition number, photographs, certificate information and documentation of its creation.
24. Can I personalize my Crown?
The artwork itself should remain consistent with the edition. However, you could offer collectors personalization through the accompanying documentation or presentation, rather than modifying the artwork.
DISPLAY & CARE
25. Is glass sculpture fragile?
Although glass requires care, the Crown is constructed as a substantial solid sculpture rather than a thin decorative glass object. It should nevertheless be handled carefully and displayed on a stable surface.
26. How should I clean it?
Use a soft, clean microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive materials and harsh chemicals that could affect the polished surfaces.
27. Can it be displayed in direct sunlight?
I’d recommend displaying it away from prolonged direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations. A controlled indoor environment is ideal.
28. Can it be displayed outdoors?
It is intended primarily for indoor display in a controlled environment.
29. How heavy is it?
Include the exact weight here once finalized. This is one of the practical questions serious collectors are likely to ask.
30. What are its dimensions?
List the exact finished dimensions here, ideally in both inches and centimetres.
SHIPPING & OWNERSHIP
31. Do you ship internationally?
If you intend to offer international acquisition, say yes and clearly explain that shipping, insurance, duties and taxes depend on destination.
32. How is the sculpture packaged?
Each Crown should be transported in purpose-built protective packaging designed specifically for the sculpture.
33. Is shipping insured?
For a ₹1L+ artwork, I’d recommend making fully insured shipping part of the acquisition process wherever commercially feasible.
34. What happens if the sculpture is damaged during shipping?
The artwork should be shipped using appropriate protective packaging and insurance. Any damage should be reported immediately with photographs and packaging documentation so the claim and resolution process can begin.
